My core training was as a humanistic counsellor although I have also trained and qualified as a cognitive behavioural psychotherapist and latterly completed EMDR training. I prefer to use what is described as an integrative approach (combining various concepts in thinking and approaches in therapy) and by using my assessment skills and experience I provide therapy which is evidence-based. I appreciate that each person is an individual and I understand that it is important to be flexible and tailor therapy to meet a persons unique needs. I began my counselling skills training in 1998 and progressively moved into higher education graduating from both Keele and Staffordshire Universities. Higher qualifications that I have gained include;
- Post Graduate Diploma in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy ~ 2011
- Master of Science (MSc.) in Counselling Psychology ~ 2007
- Post Graduate Certificate in Counselling Supervision ~ 2006
- Graduate Diploma in Counselling ~ 2005
- Certificate in Counselling ~ 2003
Additional further professional training;
- EMDR with children and Young People Training Parts 1 & 2 ~ 2014/15
- EMDR Institute training – Level 1-3 ~ 2014
- Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction Training ~ 2011/12
My experience of enabling and supporting people through growth or recovery has been acquired by working for many years within the NHS, voluntary sector and privately. I have extensive experience working with individuals and families within palliative care and those undergoing or recovering from oncology treatment. I also have experience of working therapeutically with children and adolescents in primary and secondary school settings utilising creative and play therapies. I welcome referrals from all ages from children through to senior citizens.
I have been a registered and accredited member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) since 2009. In 2012 I gained full accreditation with the British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP). Since 2013 I have been a member of EMDR Association of the UK & Ireland and in 2015 I also became a member of the Association of Child and Adolescent Mental Health. (ACAMH).
As an accredited practitioner I am committed to further developing my skills and abilities by attending and participating in professional development training courses and events throughout the year.
